Burns Night again, 25th Jan 2016, a Monday evening
Home from work at 5.30pm, watched a bit of Pointless then fell asleep. Woke and started to get tea ready for Beloved, the remains of the weekend food with Mal and Stella, Stornaway Black pudding, spookily a question on pointless, also fillet steak beef Wellington, mash, peas etc.
anyway, looked out and behold, clouds had cleared and was looking good for more observing. It’s been cloudy for the last 10 days, rain and mild temps, we get the remnants of the storm that hit the good ol US of A over the weekend tomorrow.
So, into Obby, fired up the power, polar aligned with Dubhe and mintaka. Spent a bit of time splitting Sirius, then M42,M43, M44 and M 45. Pleiades beautiful but it’s a full moon so colours not as vivid. Had a look for M101 but it must be quite faint. Realised the handset tells you constellation, size, magnitude of objects etc.
best prize was double cluster, NGC 884. Moon was really getting going now, so had a look with 28mm RKE, REALLY GOOD.
Then down to earth; tried to put DSLR onto telescope at primary focus, only to find it would not focus, v disappointing. Tried the focal reducer from FLO, still no good, the took off Baader diagonal, no good either, so finished for the evening and stuck my thinking cap on. However have fitted Baader moon filter to camera adapter said, hope to get the going so can.start to take some photos. May experiment with Minitron,I know it focuses with the telescope.
Off to bed to read Making every photon count, may email FLO in the morning
